A Glimpse of Allies

Hello! 

I am DT and I live here in NH. I have been doing some thinking and want to share with you all my experience when I went to the Allies Conference last year. While I moved here a few years ago this is where I finally got to see communities come together and interact and engage. People attended from all over New England and many flew in from other parts of the country to attend.  

I came prepared to attend the conference with an open mind and an open heart and to be ready to participate in dialogue. What I didn’t realize was that the richness of that dialogue would be something I would take with me after the conference was over.  I was able to continue to contemplate, process and do action for the betterment of the community with a clear frame for what my role looked like. And not only that, but after the conference, I have a better sense of what others in the community want, what to expect from each other, and a plan for open communication.

I plan to go again! My goal is to talk more with interpreters and the hearing community to see from multiple perspectives and figure out our role and how we can best work together to accomplish our goals.
